BUN IN THE OVEN

Our food reviewer Joanne Moore and her daughter Isla check out the baby-friendliness of new brunch spot Foxcroft & Ginger

Not an obvious choice for a lunch date with a two-year-old – with its neon façade and graffiti-style exterior – F&G looks more like the latest hipster hangout. But, on entering (through whopping great doors ideal for buggies) the music is loud, but rather than a sea of trendies, the crowd is a pretty mixed bunch and I spot fellow mummies, nursing large coffees.

The décor is industrial cool with a hipster twist and by the door there's a vintage pommel horse – bringing back memories of relentless gymnastics in the 80s. My two -year-old understandably asked, ‘What’s that?’ Quite.

The counter is packed with freshly-baked goods. I enjoy a good cappuccino and am immediately offered juice for my little one. The menu has a line-up of incredible sandwiches, burgers and salads for lunch but sadly no kids’ menu and pizza was unavailable until 4.30pm.

We opted for a cheese croissant, a Moroccan chicken salad and a side of polenta chips! Our favourite though was a rather divine blueberry muffin, which got the toddler and parent thumbs up – ‘Wowee Mummy’.

Overall, I’d say delicious food, brilliant cake and a chilled vibe for a reasonable price. It would hit the spot for most parents looking for a cool alternative to the soft-play cafeteria and there is also the notable lure that they serve wine when a coffee simply won’t do.

Baby changing facilities: Yes, clean and spacious.

Buggy parking: Tricky, as a few raised areas, high tables and some tables very close together, but a couple of tables have enough space.

Highchairs: Yes, I counted four.

Kids Menu: No, so for those who don’t mind their children sharing from their plate and the more adventurous palates. No crayons or colouring sheets.
